Great Mother Jomon

Millennium TwainGreat visual overview of many of the Great Mother Dogu clay figurines from the Jomon-era Priestess-culture of Japan, about 16,000 BC to 1000 BC. After a ten year search, I finally got to visit my first Dogu museum, in Chino, Nagano-ken, this July 2009. The two most famous Dogu from Chino are the Venus of Japan (4500 years old) and the Masked Dogu (4000 years old). Each of them are shown in the slide show to the top left here at AscendSong (click on it to see the photo album in progress). The Masked Dogu replica was my birthday present, and sits in our Azumino Japanese Garden. The Venus of Japan is numero uno, number one, of the 1100 or so "National Treasures of Japan."

  1. Are you and Megumi back living in Japan now? Did you get the archeologist job? When are you writing that article on the Japanese matriarchy?
